Former Texas Secretary of State and Commissioner of Insurance Elton Bomer has been named president of four insurance companies: American Reserve Life Insurance Co., Liberty Bankers Life Insurance Co., Mid-Continent Preferred Life Insurance Co. and Winnfield Life Insurance Co. The companies are part of the Dallas-based Heritage Guaranty Holdings Group.
Bomer will join the companies on Nov. 1, 2006, according to Bradford Phillips, president of Heritage Guaranty. He comes to the companies after spending the last two years as a business and governmental affairs consultant in the Austin office of the Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP law firm.
Well-known in the Texas insurance industry, Bomer was appointed Texas Secretary of State in 1999 by then-Gov. George W. Bush, who had previously appointed Bomer to serve as Texas Commissioner of Insurance in 1995. Additionally, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1981-85 and 1991-95.
“Heritage Guaranty is actively working to expand our national presence in the life insurance and annuities markets,” says Phillips. “Having someone who is as established and respected in the insurance industry as Elton Bomer will only serve to accelerate that process and increase our profile in the industry.”
“Elton is a consummate professional with unwavering integrity and we are proud of the association we enjoyed with him,” says Gardere Managing Partner Stephen D. Good. “We wish him well as he takes on this new role and are confident that he will be a wonderful leader for such a diverse and dynamic group of companies.”
