I for one am tired of the whining and “mining of compensation” by homeowners and attorneys over Katrina. Why, after four decades an numerous other hurricanes is this ship channel suddenly the root of all disasters? While it “may” have been a contributing factor, the extent and relevancy of which is unknown, it wasn’t a primary factor. New Orleans has always been and will forever be “ground zero” for tropical storms and hurricanes coming up the Gulf. Some idiots built the place BELOW SEA LEVEL and expected an earthen levee system and some pumps to keep it above water. Ain’t gonna happen. Everyone who’s willing to have more of their tax dollars thrown down this sewer the next time this happens raise your hand.

well, i think it actually is working both ways…first of all, we already knew that we were below sea level when we allowed the building of this city. that the corp of eng’rs thought they could help w/the leveee system to reroute flooding waters. problem, is what happens like KATRINA and it was too late! i think this time the gov’t did not think outside the box. too much in the box going on! here’s the other issue, you knew that living in new orleans, that you’d be living beneath sea level. therefore are prone to more flooding than anywhere else. you took the risk of living there. this would be like living near a naval air station and as it grows so do the level of noise because of the consolidation of the bases. but what folks don’t realize, even if the lived next to a major airport, noise level would go up as the airport grew. so you have to take the grain of salt. where you live is a decision you have to see “outside the box”, because it can affect you later down the road. in this case, both the homeowner and feds, are at fault – feds probably are probably 60% AF….
