University of North Texas Associate Professor Risk Management & Insurance Brenda Wells announced that one of her students, UNT senior Rachel Somerford, has received the national J.H. Blades Scholarship from the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Organizations (NAPSLO).
Each summer NAPSLO selects students from around the country for its internship program. Out of 80 applicants in 2008, Somerford, along with Wes Edison of UNT, were two of only 15 interns selected for the program. At the recent NAPSLO convention in San Diego, Somerford was selected as the year’s top intern and was rewarded the scholarship.
With the scholarship, NAPSLO provides airfare and a $2,500 stipend for Somerford to spend three weeks learning about the London insurance market.
Wells noted that this is the first year UNT students have applied for the NAPSLO internship program.
