I would think a church is a public meeting place. And certainly no place for guns!

Remember all the folks killed in the Church in Colorado and again just last week in Atlanta. Moses kept his staff by his side.

““The only reason to openly carry is for intimidation or to impress the girls,” said Wilson, D-Tahlequah. “It makes Oklahoma look silly with all these cowboys running around with guns. And there’s just no data that shows being armed helps at all with public safety.”

I think I have to agree with the esteemed Senator.

I was raised in a military family, so I have first hand knowledge about what guns are capable of doing. Many of friends didn’t have Dads come back from Korea or Vietnam.

I personally do not like guns. Am I not allowed to voice an opinion? I didn’t say people who like guns shouldn’t be allowed to have one. I just don’t like them and they scare me. Period. It’s not a political statement.

        Lighten up on me.

While I agree that many guys carrying openly are probably trying to impress the girls, or shore up their self-esteem…he’s incorrect about public safety.

I remember when Florida enacted their concealed carry law. Several gangbangers and criminals were interviewed (anonymously, of course) and unamimously said they were less likely to mug/assault someone since their intended victim might be carrying.

I do think that there should be ongoing trainig not only for LEO’s, but also for anyone licensed to open-carry.

I can only imagine the fubar scenario where a “helpful open carry citizen” decides to pitch in and “help” the police in a firefight.

much ado about nothing. my state has very liberal gun laws, and you can carry anywhere/anytime (generally, except as posted) and there is virtually never a problem. the anti-gun liberals make a big deal out of this but it means nothing.

I don’t know. Guns scare me. I really don’t want to see people walking around with them strapped to their thigh like the wild, wild west. It would make me very uneasy. It’s bad enough you can carry them concealed, but what I don’t know can’t scare me.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, affect this might have on the crime rate in Oklahoma. People should learn to respect guns, not fear them. If the criminals are going to run around with guns they’ve obtained illegally (in some cases), why can’t private citizens carry one they’ve obtained legally and been trained to use? It’s our 2nd amendment right.

Cant you people see that you have to be constantly aware of your surroundings to carry a gun. It only takes one instance of nonobservance and a criminal can take the gun from you. Then what? I do not think many people at all in Oklahoma are that aware.

Keep in my everyone, “Libby” posts in every topic on Insurance Journal and ALWAYS supports whatever the Democratic viewpoint is. Funny that a Democratic Senator, one who has routinely voted against handguns even being legal, is someone she chooses to defend.

I highly doubt “Libby” is a female or, for that matter, an American. You should read the posts by this person in some threads here. “She” consistently starts fights with ANYONE not following Obama and pushes “her” views on everyone. If you look at the dates and times of all “her” posts, it would be impossible for this person to even have a job, much less a career. It’s a shame the Communists have to now invade Insurance Journal.

I have a gun, I have a licence to carry a concealed weapon and would never carry it in the open. I believe that anyone who is bold enough to carry off a crime with a gun is usually not going to care if someone has one holstered to their side. It just gives them someone to shoot at first. If it is concealed, you might get a chance to draw it first. The mentally ill or desperate don’t think logically plain and simple.

Population density is nowhere near the same. Nor is there the level of crime, etc.

Which is why you cannot compare crime rates in Des Moines to Chicago, or even Canada to the US.

People just keep on forgetting that one little key indicator when they talk about the relative worths of gun control.

I live in an open carry state. Actually, I live in a state that allows anyone to open carry, permit or not. It’s a state that only requires permits to carry concealed. It’s been that way for years, and I could probably count the number of times I’ve seen citizens exercising that (open carry) right on one hand. I really don’t expect every gun owner in Oklahoma to be donning holsters “to impress the girls”.

I personally was offended by the “intimidate” and “impress the girls” comment in the article. An increasing number of women are choosing to carry, and just like men, they are carrying for their own protection and or the protection of others not to intimidate or impress.

Personally, I feel safer knowing there are armed law abiding citizens in this country.

I really don’t expect to see every gun owner in Oklahoma donning holsters to “intimidate” or “impress the girls”.

I was offended by the “impress the girls” statement. Countrywide, an increasing number of women are choosing to carry and just like men, do so for their protection and the protection of others. Firearms are not fashion accessories.

I personally feel safer, knowing there are a growing number of sheepdogs protecting the flock.

Really? You don’t think that a few bullets from a person/persons with some firearms training (usually required for concealed carry) aimed at the shooter may have reduced the damage to the innocent? Imagine in this scenario if one of those bullets hit its target…how many lives may have been saved?
