Had this been me, or more than likely any of you, we would be in prison. Who didn’t grow up in a family with a father who was strict or in a divorced household? Now murder is acceptable if your parents didn’t pamper you, even if you grew up rich?

My dad took the belt out when I was in grade school. It taught me to NOT DO THESE THINGS. Thanks Mr. Judge, you’ve just shown an impressionable 16 year old kid that money is above the law. If it had been your family members he killed, you would have ruled differently.

It is NOT his first run in. His parents want him to go to a rehab place in CA where he has been before…..Apparently it didn’t work the first time, why would we send him back there???

Again, the parents have money and it is a shame that it can buy justice/injustice in this manner.

I think murder is a little strong. Certainly 4 people are dead and he should be punished for that, but he’s only 16 and 16 year-olds don’t have good judgement. Their brain isn’t fully developed. His parents should have been punished for supplying with a potentially lethal weapon and no supervision.

Libby, You can call it whatever you want to call it. Four people are dead. Murder, homicide, whatever…it doesn’t change the fact that he killed four people. This wasn’t his first offense & he had been driving since he was 13, and had been caught stealing beer from Walmart that evening. He should be in prison.

101 – I did not see anywhere in that article that this was not his first offense or that he had been driving since he was 13. Also, he was not caught stealing the beer, he was caught on surveillance video – most likely viewed after the tragic accident. And yes, I called it an accident. That boy did not set out that night to run over and kill 4 people. He used poor judgement, had no supervision, and acted like a an immature kid – which is exactly what he is.

I didn’t say I think he should have been set free or even that I agreed with the sentence. All I said was “murder” seemed a little harsh. In my mind, murder includes intent and there was no intent here. I think 10 years in prison would have been more appropriate.

His brain is developed, he may have just not used it for good judgment. 16 year olds know not to drink and drive. These kids also knew they were not supposed to have alcohol which is why they stole it. Money bought a better lawyer. I understand the judge trying to do best with the tools he had and at least got a 10 year probation deal in place. Hopefully it lasts for 10 years.

    It starts out very innocently.
Conservatives make the case that the top 1% of Americans are job creators and that reducing their taxes will eventually benefit us all.
To defend that position they need to deflect the image of the rich as selfish spoiled greedy money grubbing capitalist and paint them as well meaning kind and generous benefactors who are hard working and earn every penny of their salary…even if that salary happens to be 300 times the amount earned by their employees.
They are, after all, only getting to keep what they “earn”.
And when the rich and the powerful make risky and often illegal bets and cause a collapse of our economic system, Conservatives rush to their defense claiming it was the government who failed to police them properly that allowed their actions to infect the entire economy. And a Conservative President rushes to their aid with 700 billion dollars to bail them out of the jam..while American middle class and poor homeowners lose their homes and life savings.
And when a spoiled drunk rich kid kills some lowly hard working family in an auto accident, his 1% family rushes to his defense with a high paid lawyer who claims he was a victim of a disease called “Afluenza”
What’s the penalty for killing 4 low class Americans? A year spent in a $450,000 country club rehab facility…complete with a 5 star dining facility. Where do the rest of us sign up.
Yeah. Now we are starting to see what Conservative “trickle down” economics really looks like.

Here is what is wrong with our legal system: Which is worse: this kid and his friends getting drunk and killing 4 people, or the guy who helped the Jewish dude steal $7 million from a charity? The kid faced a 20 year sentenced while the helper faces 25 years.

Parents need to discipline their children early on; unfortunately, many parents were not disciplined by their parents either, so the problem of irresponsibility continues. We cannot hold the parents responsible for the actions of their children indefinitely. At some point, the child must take responsibility for himself. I remember telling my parents “You taught me better; I chose to do it any way”. I didn’t kill or hurt anyone, but I deliberately chose to disregard what I had been taught. Ultimately, each one of us must take responsibility for the choices we make — good or bad.

Multiple felonies and he gets probation. Nice. It’s apparent that Judge does not care about the safety of other people. I guess it’s more important to keep the wealthy dad happy. I am sad to say the justice system fails us more than it protects us. I hope the terms of his probation keeps him in Texus…and I won’t be visiting TX any time soon! I hope his license has been permanently revoked for life.

Hey Florida, this could have happened in any state and there are sorry judges all over the place. They let rapists out with only a slap on the wrist to do it all over again. This judge should be removed and this kids parents should suffer some huge lawsuits. I understand this is not the first time for DUI for this kid and his parents keep buying him out of trouble. The kid should be admitted to a looney farm for an extended stay. Your condemnation of Texas is uncalled for. Florida has nothing to brag about. Your voters don’t even know how to vote and sent the wonderful Alan Grayson back to Congress so he can spew more vile hate.

Just a question – why would you say Florda’s condemnation is uncalled for and immediately follow it up with your own condemnation of Florida? And, from my perspective, Florida voted just fine even despite the push to suppress the vote.

Florida sent Alan Grayson back to Congress despite his evil left wing agenda. No, they haven’t figured out how to vote yet, remember pregnant chads and no there was no attempt by Republicans to suppress the vote. There is nothing wrong with requiring ID to vote. That is how you keep illegal aliens from influencing the outcome of elections.

            KY,
Pregnant Chads are another name for Jar Heads. Specifically those whose brains are filled with Koch Brother propaganda. The difference is they take a “back door” approach and after “taking in” so much malignant propaganda, one becomes a “Pregnant Chad”. Unfortunately there is no known cure for this epidemic and it is spreading like wild fire. It is said to occur primarily in warmer climates, and due to a lack of education in the aforementioned region, it seems this trend will continue for generations.

“In the 2000 United States presidential election, many of Florida votes used Votomatic style punched card ballots where incompletely-punched holes resulted in partially punched chads: either a hanging chad, where one or more corners were still attached, or a dimpled chad or pregnant chad, where all corners were still attached, but an indentation appears to have been made. These votes were not counted by the tabulating machines.”

I say our society is too far gone to correct this problem.
There was a case at our elementary school when my 17-yr old was in 1st grade, and we actually stopped using spanking at that time.

A boy who, for the most part, was trouble at school (according to my son). At one point he came crying to his teacher that he got spanked with a belt the night before, and CPS was called.

It took that poor family 6 months and thousands of dollars to get ALL 4 of their children back!

Every bleeding-heart liberal out there knows best how you should run your family and your life, until there’s trouble. Then — it’s all your fault!

My understanding is that the Justice Department is going to look into this case, which hopefully will include judicial review of the judge’s decision. Everyone’s thoughts and support for the families of the victims of this tragedy should be focused toward justice being done so that a precedent is not allowed to be set, one which will allow other irresponsible persons to disregard the rights of others as guaranteed in our US Constitution.
