Gentry to Retire from Insurance Council of Texas

Rick Gentry, executive director of the Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) since 1997, has announced that he will retire from the association at the end of March 2014.

“It is hard to imagine a better professional experience,” said Gentry. “ICT has benefited from an engaged board of directors and a creative, hard-working staff. Together, I think we have built one of the premier insurance trade associations in the country.”

Gentry informed the ICT board of directors of his plans at its December meeting. He said that ICT would begin a search for his replacement immediately.

“We are grateful for Rick’s valuable contributions to the Texas insurance industry throughout his years of service,” said Joe Johnson, chairman of ICT and vice president and regional manager for United Fire Group. “Under his leadership ICT has established an educational foundation, a worker’s compensation program, and an annual symposium that is widely regarded as one of the best insurance meetings in our industry.”

Johnson said that ICT wants to have a successor in place in the next several months.

“The board has asked that Rick identify candidates who are qualified to manage what has grown into the largest state-based insurance trade association in the United States,” said Johnson.

Prior to joining ICT, Gentry served for 15 years as the regional vice president of the Insurance Information Institute. He is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Business and the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
