Wow! was this woman texting or looking at her Face Book when she walked into a 5 foot deep hole? The info is pretty brief, but usually, there is a barrier or tape surrounding recent dirt work or a warning sign or all three.
The settlement amount suggests there was no barrier tape or warning sign. As for her being drunk or on Facebook–is it not plausible that a city employee simply forgot to cordon off the area after removing the pole and an unsuspecting lady stepped into the hole? Not every claimant is a drunk or a fraud.
But it sure stretches the imagination that she did not see a two foot round hole or at least some difference in the ground when she was walking from the game. There seems to be more to this story.
Well, in my city, if there is construction of any kind going on with the city, there are all kinds of barriers, warnings around it to prevent this kind of thing. Of course, there is always the possibility of some prankster removing it. I am tending to think the lady was distracted by her cellphone or talking to someone and wasn’t watching where she was walking. This is not like stumbling over a curb or stepping into a shallow chug hole. I have seen stories of people texting while walking and stepped right out into traffic and was hit by a car. Those people are plain goofy.
It has been reported that this hole was dug to stash Rick Perry’s narcotics as well as install a striper pole and not a utility pole. Unfortunately, most of the narcotics were consumed prior to the hole being filled in, and this poor co-ed fell into the bowels of Texico.

Purely speculation, but she could have been drunk too. Tech is known for alcohol consumption at games…along with scores of other schools.
