Texas needs to add a hefty ticket for texting while driving as well. It has failed in the legislature and I can only assume our lawmakers enjoy texting while driving to and from Austin.

It has gotten really crazy. Look at what drivers around you are doing the next time you ride in the passenger seat. Just about every darn one of them is holding a cell phone in their lap or at their ear. And you really need a working horn these days since red lights have turned into defacto texting stations for drivers.

I am all for a NO CELL PHONE rule. No use. Period. I would ban texting, talking, hands-free usage, bluetooth headsets, etc. Ban it all. If you’re talking on the phone you are not paying attention to the 3,000+ pound weapon you’re operating. Period.

The seat belt issue is also really frustrating. What’s the difference between a $5,000 physical damage fenderbender and a severe bodily injury claim? Lack of a seat belt. I for the life of me cannot figure out why people and their insurers should be obligated to pay for injuries which only occurred because the person wasn’t wearing their seat belt. Heck, I can’t even figure out why people choose not to wear one at all.
