A foundation in his name??? what, the “lie and get on a plane to spread an infectious disease in another country ” foundation? Had he survived, he would have been CHARGED for lying and coming here after knowingly beeing exposed. That is the most disgusting thing I’ve read in a while.

I agree, insurancero. Crazy that this hospital paid this many for anything. I doubt the guy was even going to pay for his treatment. This is wrong on so many levels but it was made a “race” case because he was black and he died. Remember that? It was insinuated that he died because he didn’t receive the same care that other Ebola patients received.

Hi Perplexed. I am sure the hospital sent a letter of appreciation to the CDC for all the information they didn’t get on treatment or training for nurses and doctors. The bottom line is that this guy lied to his country, this country on his infection and was too far gone to save and he managed to infect two nurses who hadn’t been trained as were thousands of other hospitals.

This is insanity. His 4 kids are being taken care of?? WHY??

I’guessing HE NEVER took care of them even when he was Ebola free!

    This is abolsutley outrageous!

If he was white and a citizen his kids would be told to shove it!

I hope that hopsital goes bankrupt over their malpractice insurance assuredly going through the roof.

They should be palced in jail for the foundation. What will it be called?
    The

“I’m black and I lied and infected Americans, give me some money?”

    Foundation?

Due to his lying and failure to disclose extremely important relavant information thereby putting others at risk he should have not been paid a dime! I guess he paid the ultimate price for lying but still for the Hospital to pay is really sad. I suppose the Hospital felt that they had no choice once discrimination was made an issue. He didn’t receive the same care because he lied so they didn’t know about his Ebola exposure.

He received the same care that anyone with his REPORTED condition would have received.

Just to clarify here Libby, are you honestly saying you agree with the outcome of the hospital having to create a fund in his name and taking care of his family through a legal settlement? Who am I kidding, of course you do.

Libby, I will say one thing about your insane views. It truly is a good barometer for sane-minded people to understand just how diluted your ilk is.

Well, Destro, my young friend, when you have a loved one die due to malpractice we’ll see how forgiving you are. You’d be the first one in line with a lawsuit. I don’t think the hospital should have had to create a fund in his name, but it’s very altruistic of them (and tax deductible.)

If I have a family member who travels from his Ebola-stricken home country without quarantining themselves to ensure they aren’t in fact infected with an incredibly deadly disease, who then gets symptoms upon entering the country and once arriving at the hospital doesn’t tell them there’s a good chance he may be infected with Ebola, then I’ll eat my own words. But I’m going to go ahead and guarantee that ridiculous scenario will never happen.

You are an insane person and need to be committed to an asylum.

If you were a family member who travels from his Ebola-stricken home country without quarantining himself because he had no idea he had been exposed to Ebola, who then gets symptoms similar to malaria (to which he thinks he was exposed) and tells the hospital that he came from said Ebola-stricken country and they send him home with antibiotics when they should have known (even if he didn’t) that there was a chance he had Ebola, then I’m sure you and your family would sue.

You need to remember that the next time you knee jerk into all of your black and white scenarios. I was just like you at that age. Luckily I had a mentor that was patient with me and showed me there is always another perspective that should at least be weighed before jumping to conclusions. You would be wise to find such a mentor for yourself. You don’t know what you don’t know.

Duncan did not lie. He told the hospital he had been in Libya. He said he hadn’t been in contact with anyone with Ebola, because that’s what he thought to be true:

“Recent news coverage suggests that he may not have lied at all, that he could have believed that he did not come into contact with someone infected with Ebola. At least two different articles suggest that at the time, no one knew that the woman Duncan aided had Ebola. Marthalene Williams appears to have been the first person in her community to contract Ebola. As she was seven months pregnant and presenting with abdominal pains, it was thought more likely that she was suffering a pregnancy-related condition. After her death, Williams was believed to have died of complications of malaria. It was only when people around her began developing Ebola, after Duncan’s departure, that her true cause of death was known. Duncan may well have known nothing of these developments until after his departure.”

Try a little more empathy and learn the facts before you allow your un-Christian behavior come out.

Well, since the guy DID tell the hospital he had been to Liberia, just not exposed to Ebola (because that’s what he thought), shouldn’t the hospital have raised a red flag at that news? The fact that they sent him home and he ultimately died, while all others that have contracted Ebola and been treated in the U.S. have lived kinda sounds like malpractice to me. It has nothing to do with his race.

He had helped with a pregnant neighbor who had Ebola. (BTW, that’s how it spreads over there – there aren’t enough clinics so the folks take care of each other.)

He also helped with the disposal of bodies.

He admitted, after he got here, that he lied to the authorites in his country so he could get out and make it to the wedding he was coming for.

He only told them he was from Liberia!

If you died because of malpractice, I’m sure your family would pursue some type of litigation against the doctors/hospitals. They shouldn’t have let him go home. If they had treated him from the get, he would probably still be alive.

Agent, Chuckie Shumer wants the federal government to reimburse NYC for the $20M tab they ran up treating their FIRST ebola patient. $20M to treat one patient. Can we possibly afford to treat anyone if it really costs that much to treat one person?
Under obuma care they will eventually say put them in ebola camps, like the old leper camps and let them die because it will cost too much to treat this disease.

Maryland and Georgia will be next I suppose to get on the gravy train. All we need to do is bring all Ebola patients to the land of milk and honey and treat them at $20 million per pop. That should make the taxes rise, shouldn’t it?

Actually, I don’t believe in suing. It’s not “turning the other cheek” to sue someone because you feel like you were wronged, harmed, etc. God says turn the other cheek and He means it. Most of my family feels the same way, so docs have nothing to fear from us.

I don’t believe in it either, but I don’t know what I’d do if someone made a huge error and it cost me my loved one. I’d like to say I would turn the other cheek, but it would depend on how egregious it was and whether it had happened before in the past. Sometimes you have to punish people for their mistakes. That is the only way to do it in a case like this.

Well, this is the American Way! We have a cadre of lawyers out there ready willing and able to stand up for the little people being mistreated by the big corporations. We should be proud knowing that we have full employment for lawyers in the USA.

Oddly though, when I tried to press a med mal case, I found know one willing to take it. My case would not have made headlines.

Thank you members of the bar for making and keeping America great. Oppressive lawsuits do not have the impact that the onerous rules and regs the dems are pushing. Just good old free enterprise.

I don’t think he was smart enough to rationalize what you are proposing he thought. He just flat out lied and then the family figured out a good way to milk the system, like they seemingly alway do (of course, with a little help form Al, Jesse, and the boys)

Jack M. – I never mentioned race. In fact, I specifically said it had nothing to do with race.

And what does his intelligience have to do with what he thought. They thought the woman had malaria. She wasn’t diagnosed with Ebola until after he left Liberia. He did not know he had been exposed.

Think about it. If you KNEW you had been exposed to deadly Ebola and you started having symptoms, would you LIE to the hospital about it??? Why? Why would you lie to the only people that could help you recover from a deadly disease.

You people never stop to think logically. It’s just knee-jerk he’s a lying scumbag and his kids are out to fleece the system.
