It’s my understanding that Hemingway’s “A Farewell To Arms” is also being dropped from English Department recommended reading lists statewide.

What are the positives of this bill, honestly? More “rights” to those who want to carry a gun on a college campus? This is beyond ridiculous. Yeah, I really feel safe knowing the guy/girl next to me is packing heat in the middle of a lecture. Why in the world would someone need a gun on them on campus? ALL colleges have security, and most have their own police force. I am all for concealed handgun licenses, but there are LINES to draw Texas. I only graduated 2 years ago, so I know how stressful college is. The last thing we should be doing is giving these stressed out students guns.

Yes, Jenifer M-K, it is insane. But, this is the state that thinks the Federal government is going to invade them under the guise of military exercises. To be fair, I guess it is only part of the population and the governor that believes this. They also believe in local rule, except when it conflicts with the needs of industry lobbyists (al la Denton) and then the big brother of State government knows what’s best for the locals.

Insurance is fun!, I’d hate to see Texas secede. Overall, it is a decent state, still. It is sad that it seems to be going the way of Westboro Church… loooooonnnnnyyyyyy… I do hold out hope for the best.

Texas, if nothing else, you should honor the 16 killed by Charles Whitman at the University of Texas – Austin on August 1, 1966 by NOT allowing concealed weapons on campus.

Yes, you should honor them by making sure everyone remains disarmed and unable to defend themselves. Oh wait, Whitman broke the law when he killed people and guns were banned back then? Oops.

Looking at the story back then: Martinez (a police officer) later credited the numerous civilian shooters for saving “many lives” by forcing Whitman to take cover; limiting his range of targets.

Guess what, the criminal is already carrying a gun and you don’t even know it. You take a false sense of security in thinking a sticker saying “no guns” gives you safety.

I’m fine with gun ownership but you know wayne smith, I’ve heard that excuse for permitting the carrying of guns numerous times. I still believe it is a load of paranoid b.s. I’d love to see some statistics that back up that paranoid notion that you must arm yourself because of the untold masses of criminals packing concealed guns and running amok shooting people.

You know, I’ve heard the fire extinguishers can put out fires, but I’m not convinced they can because I mean really, how often do you hear of home owners actually using one?

If someone fires a gun and is a criminal, and you have a gun, you have a chance of defending. The odds are low you will ever have to, but if you’re in the right place (or should I say wrong place) at the right time, you would be glad to have one for defense.

Stating that a gun cannot defend against a gun, is indeed paranoid.

I should take a quick note to say here:

I don’t like guns and I personally wouldn’t own one.

It’s something I haven’t said during these gun arguments, simply because I believe people should focus on whether or not owning a gun is a bad thing. I don’t think it is.

In fact given my first experience firing a gun when I was 14…If youtube was around it would have been very similar to some things you see on youtube.

No one wants me to be carrying a gun.

It scared the crap out of me. The rifle was better but still I can’t aim or fire worth a darn.

It boggles my mind that anyone would have had me fire a semi automatic weapon at 14. So I get that there is such a thing is irresponsibility out there with regard to guns, I was highly pressured into firing the guns when I visited Idaho, by irresponsible elders.

I think I have this solved. Why not pass a law making it illegal to possess a gun without a license. That should stop all the criminals and then us law abiding citizens won’t feel the need to protect ourselves. Imagine the thugs and criminals lining up to turn in their guns once this law is passed. Utopia!
