The South Carolina Insurance News Service announced the appointment of Cheryl Watts as the new president of its board of directors. Watts is the southeast division underwriting manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She succeeds Bill Tucker, vice president and state officer of Nationwide Insurance, who served as president during 2002. Tucker will continue to serve as a board member.
“I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and fellow board members to further our goals in providing insurance information to consumers and the media in South Carolina. Insurance is a difficult topic to understand—that’s why the South Carolina Insurance News Service was started in 1976. I welcome the opportunity to lead the organization and provide accurate, timely insurance news,” Watts said.
South Carolina Insurance News Service executive director Allison Dean Wright added,” We’re fortunate to have Ms. Watts at the helm. Her strong leadership, dedication, and insight will be a great asset to the news service.”
The new president-elect is Robert Bedell, president of Southern Mutual Church Insurance Company. Serving as executive vice president is Susan Kenney, vice president of marketing and sales with The Seibels Bruce Group Inc. The secretary will be Luanne Dyer, auto claim section manager for State Farm Insurance Company and continuing in his role as treasurer will be Jerry Rett, senior product manager for the Progressive Corporation.
