Tennessee Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Paula A. Flowers announced the appointments of Nashville attorney Robert E. Gowan and former state Rep. Doyle “Butch” Lewis as assistant commissioners.
Gowan joins the Department of Commerce and Insurance as assistant commissioner for Regulatory Boards, where he will supervise the agency’s 22 Regulatory Boards, with an emphasis on providing more efficient regulation and customer service and a new focus on consumer education and outreach. He is an attorney for the Nashville law firm of Stokes, Bartholomew Evans and Petree.
Lewis is the department’s new assistant commissioner for Administration. He supervises the day-to-day administrative operations of the department and oversees the modernization of its information and management systems.
Lewis, a native of Manchester, is an entrepreneur and banker who served five terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives. He has also served as senior vice president of the American City Bank in Manchester.
