Tennessee Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Paula Flowers has appointed Larry Knight Jr. as assistant commissioner for insurance.
Knight has been with the department for 10 years, rising in the ranks from an entry-level financial institutions examiner to insurance examiner-in-charge.
He will head a staff of 125 employees regulating Tennessee’s insurance industry, which includes 97,722 licensed insurance agents, numerous employers who self-insure their workers compensation plans, and 110 domestic insurers. Insurance companies paid $346.2 million in premium tax last year.
