The DA gave the family a choice. To pursue the death penalty would be years of extreme pain to the still living victims of the crime. The death penalty was strongly considered and thought better of.
This scumbag is without a doubt the stupidest criminal EVER. After killing this beautiful, intelligent girl: Katrina Anne Froeschle, this POS:
* Used her credit cards and SIGNED HIS OWN NAME.
* He left blood evidence on the walls, ceiling, sink and on the shoes he was wearing when he killed her. Yeah, this guy is so stupid he never once thought to throw his shoes away. And get this… Idiot-boy took the time to pull up the carpet she bled all over and burn it in his backyard, along with her clothes, but didn’t think to burn his blood-soaked shoes! (I wonder what reason he gave his girlfriend for tearing up the new carpet while she was at work?)
…It get’s better… One of the items of her slother he put in the fire was her belt. Apparently idiot-boy didn’t know that metal belt buckles don’t burn. (They identified it as her buckle through past pictures of her_

* When he drove he car to ditch it, he didn’t wear gloves or wipe it down afterwards. He just walked away from it leaving his fingerprints all over the steering wheel, door and her keys!
* He rifled through her purse with his bare hands, leaving his fingerprints everywhere.
* And how did this idiot get rid of the body you ask? He threw her into the small river directly off his back lawn. It was a remote place, so he could have weighed the body down and put it in the river 50 yards downstream….but not our genius!
* He cleaned the murder weapon – a muffler he beat her over the head with, (leaving blood evidence in it) and then what did he do with it? Throw it in the river? Take it to some remote place and bury it? No, this idiot just put it back on the shelf in his apartment. That’s right. Dummy left the murder weapon on a shelf in his livingroom!
* (This is the best one) Police interviewed him and after he told them he’d never met her in person and knew nothing of the murder, (of course) he left her business card on a shelf in his apartment!!
I don’t mean to make light of the horrendous thing this guy did. If anything, I’m hoping this guy somehow has computer access from prison, reads what I wrote about him and it infuriates him. And in the spirit of that happening, let me close with:
This guy was so unbelievably stupid, that even when the prosecution was throwing all this evidence in his face to try and get him to admit what he did and save the taxpayers some money, he STILL though he could beat the case. I mean, they had every type of evidence possible, short of a high definition video of the crime in surround sound!!
It was only when his lawyer told him (I’m paraphrasing) “Look dummy! I’ve defended 112 clients over 35 years, and you have left the most evidence pointing back to yourself, in THE HISTORY OF CRIME! Either confess and take life in prison or you are, without a doubt going to fry!

I am eternally sad to read about the incident that ended a wondrous life. I dated Katie while we were at FSU. She was a shining light to all the she met. I learned of this terrible incident about a year after it happened and it still haunts me.
Katie was a glorious lady that I am proud to call my friend.
I think the landlord set him up. He killed her and had Jason’s DNA and out it on her steering wheel and set him up. Surely this dude isn’t that dumb to sign his own name. That’s why I think he was framed.
The police literally HAVE VIDEO OF HIM AT THE STORE USING HER CREDIT CARD AND SIGNING HIS NAME. It’s not the landlord in the video bub, it’s Jason in the video.

You honestly think the landlord “had Jason’s DNA”? What do you think DNA is? You really think you can just carry it around in a bag like flour or something? How the landlord get Jason’s DNA? What, did he scrape Jason’s skin cells off of him into a ziploc while Jason was sleeping?
And how did Jason’s fingerprints get on Katie’s steering wheel, and everywhere else for that matter? Are you suggesting that he cut off one Jason’s fingertips, put fingerprints on the wheel as well as some of her belongings, and then sewed the tip of the finger back on without Jason noticing (or leaving a mark of any kind)? Because that’s what the landlord would have to do.

The evidence in this case is a “smoking gun” save for a hidden video of the crime. What a shame this innocent girl’s life ended so tragically and un-necessarily. I feel sorry for the girl, she seemed to be just on her way toward a great life and appeared to have good support along the way. My condolences to her family. I think life without parole was better for this maggot than the death penalty because to “rot” in jail” is much more torturous than going to sleep after a quick needle. A lot of young people think they are invincible and can do anything they want and get away with it. Perhaps more education in this area would make them think twice because I am sure many of them aren’t really aware of the consequences of acting so impetuous.
My deepest sympathies to an extremely valuable memeber of a society on this untimely and unfortunate death. May god bless her soul.
