More than 40 property and casualty producers, company representatives, association members, and life and health representatives attended a recent kick-off party in Coral Gables at which everyone celebrated the formation of the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dade County. An IIADC spokesperson said the committee was formed to give young insurance professionals in Miami-Dade County the opportunity to network, socialize and get involved.
The effort to revitalize YAC was launched earlier this year by Mike Keeby of HBA Insurance. The IIADC had a Young Agent’s group in the mid-80′s and early-90′s. Several members of IIADC’s current board were active in that effort and that motivated the reestablishment the group.
Phil Yanan, an IIADC board member, with Wilson, Washburn & Forster Insurance, was selected by the board to lead YAC. Anyone in the insurance industry that is under 40 years old OR has been in the business for less than five years can join YAC.
“I’m really excited about this,” Yanan said. “Our first event was a big success and I hope to build on that momentum. These people are the future leaders of our industry and we want to provide a forum for them that is productive, educational and fun.”
A regular YAC meeting will be held Nov. 17 at the Firkin & Friar Pub, 3148 Commodore Plaza Drive in Coconut Grove, Fla. For more information or to make reservations contact Sheila Gustafson, IIADC executive vice president at (305) 969-6935.
