Julie Mix McPeak, an attorney with more than a decade of legal and administrative experience in state government, has been appointed executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance by Governor Ernie Fletcher.
McPeak succeeds Glenn Jennings, whom Governor Fletcher appointed commissioner of Medicaid services. She most recently served as general counsel for the state employee health plan at the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
“We are delighted to have Julie McPeak return to the Office of Insurance,” said LaJuana S. Wilcher, secretary of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet, parent agency of KOI. “She brings a wealth of experience to an agency that plays a vital role in public service and consumer protection.”
McPeak spent nine years as an attorney for KOI, the last five as general counsel. In that capacity, she supervised the office’s legal staff and outside counsel, represented the agency in court and administrative cases, drafted legislation and regulations, and served as lead counsel for insurer receivership litigation.
“I appreciate the opportunity to rejoin the Office of Insurance at this critical time and I am excited about being involved in the challenges facing the insurance industry today,” McPeak said.
McPeak also has served in state government as a staff attorney for the Kentucky Health Policy Board and supervising attorney for the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights.
