Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink replaced two members of Citizens Property Insurance Corp.’s board of governors this week.
Sink appointed Andrea “Andy” Bennett of Sarasota and Tallahassee City Commissioner Allan Katz to serve on the eight-member board. The governor, CFO, House speaker and Senate president each appoint two members to the board.
Bennett is president and founder of a consulting business that deals with corporate, regulatory and legislative compliance matters related to insurance. She also served as a Montana state representative and later was elected as that state’s auditor. As auditor, she was responsible for government finance, payroll and insurance and securities regulation.
Katz is a lawyer who specializes in insurance and health care. He served as an assistant commissioner and general counsel for the former Florida Department of Insurance.
Both were political supporters of Sink, each contributing $1,000 to her campaign.
They replace Carlos Lacasa, a former Republican state representative from Miami, and John Collins, co-owner of a Broward County commercial construction company.
Citizens is the state-created insurance company for property owners who can’t find coverage through private companies.
