Police charged a man with driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed a Nissan Pathfinder into a Gulfport, Miss., building on U.S. 49, destroying a hair salon that just opened.
Gulfport police said no one was hurt when Alexander Garcia Contreras of Oaxaca, Mexico allegedly plowed into the building Friday night. He was also charged with having no insurance or driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident.
He was being held at Harrison County jail on a $1,920 bond. It was not immediately clear if he had hired an attorney. Police said Contreras and his passengers may have stolen beer just before the accident.
