The concerns of property insurance in Florida and the perils facing the property insurance industry are some of the key issues to be addressed at the Ninth Annual Windstorm Insurance Conference, set for Feb. 4 – 7 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Keynote speakers for this year’s event include Sam Miller, executive vice president of the Florida Insurance Council, Marc Levitan, director of the Louisiana State University Hurricane Center and Alex Soto, immediate past president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.
The conference, which is co-sponsored by the American Bar Association/Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, is designed to provide a variety of general sessions and workshops for all segments of the windstorm insurance industry, including insurance agents, insurance company claim managers, adjusters, risk managers, attorneys, accountants, contractors, engineers, and other experts and consultants.
By bringing together all segments of the insurance arena which deal with the aftermath of a windstorm, the 2008 WIND Conference seeks to develop and promote a greater understanding of windstorm issues among property insurance professionals.
In addition to keynote presentations, more than 35 professional development workshops will focus on issues and developments arising out of past hurricane seasons. Topics include Florida’s building code update, wind vs. water damage, builder’s risk, catastrophe fraud, condominium losses, valued policy law, Florida property insurance law updates, commercial losses, and more.
The 2008 WIND Conference will offer an expanded continuing education program by providing credits for general sessions and workshops for insurance agents, adjusters and attorneys in multiple states, and for several professional disciplines. Certifications will also be offered by the National Flood Insurance Program and the Windstorm Insurance Network Umpire Certification Program.
