Nine West Virginia airports are getting federal funding for runway improvements and other projects.
U.S. Sens. Robert C. Byrd and Jay Rockefeller say the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $1.9 million to Yeager Airport and $65,174 to the Mason County Airport.
Rep. Nick Rahall says the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $311,240 to the Mercer County Airport.
Upshur County Regional Airport in Buckhannon and the Braxton County Airport in Sutton also are each getting $111,240 – Upshur to built hangars and Braxton to install a runway guidance system.
The Wyoming County Kee Field Airport in Pineville will develop a master plan and install four apron lights with its $188,575 grant.
Marshall County Airport in Moundsville will receive $142,490, the Elkins-Randolph County Airport, $236,240, and the Barbour County Regional Airport in Philippi, $137,295 – all to buy property.
In addition to runway improvements, Yeager Airport plans to remove a hilltop that’s obstructing a runway and buy equipment to measure the skid resistance of paved surfaces during inclement weather. Mercer County Airport plans improvements to its terminal building.
