Mississippi Officials Revise Jackson Damage Estimate
The city of Jackson, Miss. revised its damage estimate from the April 4 tornadoes to $5.8 million in a second attempt at getting federal disaster assistance.
The city and Hinds County are seeking reimbursement for cleanup costs from the April 4 tornadoes that struck the area. Initial estimates fell below the Federal Emergency Management Agency's damage threshold of $3.6 million.
The city and county met a self-imposed deadline May 1 to turn in updated recovery numbers to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency for relay to FEMA.
FEMA turned down Mississippi's application for help on April 18. The state had 30 days from that date to appeal.
There were several injuries but no deaths in the storms.
