The federal government approved disaster assistance for a majority of the West Virginia counties Gov. Joe Manchin requested after severe weather caused significant damage in the state from June 3 through June 7.
The approval includes individual assistance for Barbour, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Marion, Taylor and Tyler counties.
Public assistance is approved for Barbour, Clay, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Marion and Taylor counties.
Additional county designations for public and individual assistance may be made at a later date after further evaluation.
All counties in West Virginia are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (assistance to state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for actions taken to prevent or reduce long term risk to life and property from natural hazards).
