State Farm Staying in Alabama
January 30, 2009
State Farm's withdrawal from Florida's property insurance market hasn't changed its Alabama coastal coverage.
State Farm spokesman David Majors said the company will resume offering wind coverage in small parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties where last year it had stopped writing new coverage because of hurricane losses.
The Mobile County area includes parts of Theodore, Irvington and Grand Bay north of U.S. 90 and south of Interstate 10. In Baldwin County, the company has resumed offering wind coverage in areas of Foley and Elberta south of U.S. 98, as well as in areas of Spanish Fort and Daphne just north of I-10.
Citing losses in Florida, State Farm said it will withdraw from selling property insurance in that state over two years, dropping 1.2 million customers.
