This week has been proclaimed severe weather awareness week in Alabama by Gov. Bob Riley
National Weather Service meteorologists say Alabama has two distinct tornado seasons — one in the spring — March through May — and the other in late fall — November to December.
Alabamians are being urged to review tornado safety guidelines in the event of severe weather hazards.
Weather officials conducted a special weekly radio test message on Wednesday to highlight preparedness and safety precautions concerning twisters. On Thursday, they discussed flooding and flash flooding.
