A central Kentucky couple have pleaded not guilty to charges that they damaged their rental home by intentionally setting it on fire.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that 31-year-old Debra Poole and 29-year-old Anthony Poole were each charged late Tuesday with second-degree arson, said Capt. James Hall of Winchester police. They pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Clark District Court.
Investigators initially believed the fire at the home started in an electrical outlet where the family’s Christmas tree was plugged in. The TV station reported that evidence found at the scene and statements from the parents were inconsistent.
The family received donations following the fire from members of Grace Baptist Church.
A preliminary hearing is set for today.
