No arguing that sprinkler systems reduce fire losses but the costs they add to an already stressed housing market should be a major factor in the debate.

Cost/Loss ratios are increasing as new homes burn so much faster – do an Internet Search “lightweight construction fire safety” and see the over one million sites explaining why sprinkler are now part of the new code. The insurance industry is now expected to pay for the sure to come litigation as the homebuilders are aware of the lightweight construction fire safety problem. The money saved from downsizing a 2,400 sq.ft. home to 2,350 will more than pay for the fire sprinklers and leave some money for the granite countertop. A Florida homebuilder is offering FREE fire sprinklers – how come they make people homeless in SC?
