Fla. Man Sentenced for Making Harassing Phone Calls to Travelers Cos.

October 22, 2012

Authorities announced last week that a Florida man has been sentenced to three years of probation for making numerous harassing phone calls to employees at the Travelers Insurance Co.

He was sentenced by United States District Judge Janet Hall in New Haven, Conn.

According to court documents, Brent Hansen of Seminole, Fla., left approximately 270 harassing voice-mail messages to employees at Travelers, from March 2011 through June 2012.

Court documents showed that in his messages, he repeatedly states that the individuals are cursed, that God will damn their souls, and that he hopes God will kill them. During this time period, Hansen also repeatedly sent harassing emails to the employees.

In September 2011, FBI agents visited Hansen’s residence in Florida to discuss this matter with him and Hansen was warned that any further harassment of the company and its employees could result in his criminal prosecution.

However, Hansen’s criminal conduct continued and his messages became more aggressive and threatening in tone, according to authorities. He has been detained since his arrest on July 5, 2012. In August, he pleaded guilty to one count of making harassing telephone calls.

Authorities said special conditions of Hansen’s probation include that he receive mental health evaluation and treatment.
