Agency Gives $75K Boost to Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers Nonprofit

April 11, 2013

The nonprofit Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers received $75,860 from the employees of insurance agency BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Co. along with Jim and Kathy Pender, Marc Brynes and The Oswald Companies.

DVIC is a nonprofit organization with the mission to educate, train and generate meaningful employment opportunities for physically disabled veterans to cross-sell personal lines insurance products on behalf of independent insurance agencies.

The check was presented to Gary V. Trippe during his retirement ceremony.

Thirty years ago, Trippe, and his wife, Gay, along with Jim Pender of The James B. Oswald Co., launched Oswald Trippe and Co. Today BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Co. is part of BB&T Insurance Service and has offices in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Holmes Beach, Miami, Naples, Ocala and Weston, Fla.

Trippe and Pender recently co-founded DVIC to help disabled U.S. veterans find employment in the insurance industry.

The funds will assist DVIC with program capabilities, including the development of state-of-the-art training techniques that will prepare disabled veterans with skills for sales support and cross-selling personal insurance products for careers in the insurance industry.

“We are most appreciative of the generous donation from BB&T-OTC and their employees,” said Gary Bryant, DVIC president and CEO. “This is a wonderful way to honor Mr. Trippe for his exemplary service to Southwest Florida and the business community.”

DVIC will invite the participation of agents and brokers. Agents, brokers and insurance companies will initially work with the nonprofit by outsourcing sales and customer service functions to the veterans group.

Through a partnership with an accredited institution of higher learning, training of up to one year will be provided through online courses and virtual classrooms. A stipend will be paid during training. The goal is for the disabled veterans to work from a home office setting.
