Because he was a football player he’s suing the school and the football coach? So if he was on the chess team he would be suing the chess coach and the school. Hopefully it’s just poor reporting that causes me to wonder what this is really all about.
Ever seen a teen drive an ATV? Perhaps it wasn’t the best judgment to let them drive on school property around pedestrian traffic. Maybe the trainers/Athletic department used it, like ours does, for running water and gear around?
Point being, the Coach is the responsible adult in charge, yes?
Really? Well, then if you kid ever gets killed by a reckless driver, we’ll be sure to quickly express our condolences to the family of the driver who killed your child. Jeez
Relax insgal. I would appreciate you keeping my kids out of it. I never said I didn’t feel bad for the family. But, from the Coach’s perspective, he has a lot invested in every kid. Losing one has to hurt like hell. Then to be blamed for a freak accident which he probably had no control over is pretty damed bad. The coach didn’t kill the football player so your analogy is not evern close. The family, also having no control over what happened, go after the coach when the right avenue is to go after the school system which should have restricted the use of the vehicle that killed that poor kid.
no. Fact is while my analogy may have been a little off point, the moral of the story remains. I feel sorry for kid that lost his life, his family, the other child driver and the other children who had to witness their friend (likely) kill another of their friends. The coach wouldn’t be high on my sympathy list.
I was primarily trying to evoke some sort of empathy here, unsuccessfully I see. We can be business people, citizens, voters, activits, chirstians, atheists…whatever. Shouldn’t we be HUMANS first?
We can rationalize, justify and pontificate as much as we want on these blogs, I only hope the family of the victims here aren’t in the biz or otherwise see your comment.
If you are all so interested in the real story, why not reach out to the family and ask them, how it has been handled up to this point, and because of that, that may be why they are moving forward…..before you judge.

I’m not sure it does a much better job, but it fills in some of the blanks. (I didn’t really put a lot of effort into this.)
The driver was found to be non-negligent and it seems the defense team is saying the kid who died was at fault for not being attentive enough. Either way, it appears there should be several witnesses.

“Sheriff’s investigators determined the driver wasn’t at fault.” One could hope the investigation was thorough, which would leave the family looking for a payday???

I agree completely. My 17 yr old was recently involved in a MVA on the highway. The police officer who responded actually said that, “it wasn’t up to him to determine fault – the insurance company would do that”!
Maybe your last statement should read, “these police departments these days are sure lacking in quality.”
This is a sore subject for me as he was also hit in a crosswalk on his bicycle several a few years ago, was hurt, but OK thank God.

How was the ATV driver who hit a pedestrian on a path not at fault. These articles are sure lacking in quality detail.
