Dear Governor, that’s not how insurance works. Insurance will pay to put you into your pre-loss condition. You won’t get paid more than what’s necessary to repair/replace your damaged items. Unless you hire a shady crew, you won’t have excess insurance settlement funds to use to update your house.
True, but it will get him part-way there if he’s willing to invest some of his own money as well. I would assume there is some overlap between the damage and the areas they would like to update anyway.
Now that I think about it, I suppose if you have to build on slab due to an extremely high water table you pretty much have to run all of your utilities in the attic. I’ve never had to deal with the problem in the areas I’ve lived in.

That’s not what he appears to be saying. He figures since his house is already torn up, he may as well go ahead and update it now.

I can’t say that I’ve ever seen that done, and for good reason!
It’s hard to believe that is even compliant with building codes.

My pipes are in the attic. Had me worried a few years ago, but no problems (knock on wood).
