Florida ‘Pill Mill’ Doctor Gets 350-Year Sentence

A South Florida doctor could get a maximum 350-year prison sentence for his conviction in an illegal prescription drug pill mill case.

A Broward County jury last week found 54-year-old Dr. Thomas Rodenberg guilty of 14 charges, including racketeering, trafficking in the painkiller oxycodone, conspiracy and illegal delivery of controlled substances.

Rodenberg was one of 11 people arrested in 2012 as part of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration-led investigation into a Pompano Beach pain clinic. Undercover officers posed as patients during a three-year probe, obtaining numerous prescriptions for controlled substances although there was no medical need.

Authorities say the 55 prescriptions for undercover officers included nearly 3,000 units of oxycodone.
