How about arming some of these adults so they can do more than practice running drills? I’m thinking the natural inclination is for people to run away and that hasn’t worked well so far. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
The article, while informative, also plays upon the emotions and engages in historical fallacy.
The 1970’s had a large number of school related shootings and deaths.
As did the 1950’s, 60’s, and 80’s.
And, as much of a tragedy as Newton was, and Columbine was, etc. Let’s also not forget that the media is singling out these instances for maximum trauma.
Where was the societal outrage when it was released that 260 school children were killed over a three year period in Chicago?
Nowhere. Because the media doesn’t care about poor minority kids getting shot in the hood.
Yes, every school shooting is a tragedy. Kids should not be getting shot. Nor should they, or teachers/employees have to fear getting shot at a school.
But this over-sensationalism of recent school shootings by the media to perpetuate an ongoing political movement is shameful.
As much, or more so than the NRA going to a shooting site and holding a rally.
By eliminating a math and science class each day, this should leave plenty of time for “paramilitary operations”. I think instead of buses we should have Chinooks transport children to and from school. Replace lawn mowers with mine sweepers, and football with ROTC. The more uniforms we put in front of these kids faces, the more of a police state we become. Thus more of these incidents will occur. Last but not least, this is all Texico’s fault!
Wayne Smith – weren’t the cops that were recently targeted and killed good guys with guns? What about the good guy with a gun who went to shoot the husband killer and the wife got him in the chest? Wasn’t he a good guy with a gun trying to stop that bad couple as well? The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a properly trained officer of the law or military. I don’t care if you own a gun and like to shoot it. Just don’t go trying to save the day unless you want to give your family memebers a reason to lament as well.
txmouth – Don’t forget, we should be donning these kids with those bulletproof backpacks, too. Maybe we should hang assault rifles in secured cases next to the fire extinguishers. Maybe some flash grenades. Each school could have it’s own uniform with a designated shield embossed so the faculty can know when an alien has invaded the grounds, and can waterboard that alien accordingly. Combat boots for all kids and faculty alike! Besides, science is a waste of time, remember? It flies in the face of God, and by God, we mean the Christian one only. And, truly, only certain versions of that Christian God. The one that hates gays and somehow divinely inspired trickle down through the spawning of St. Reagan.
Why stop with just the faculty? Surely the cafeteria workers and janitors can assist with knives and forks, and brooms and mop. How about a little poke in the eye, bad man?

Did anyone else watch Red Dawn thirty years ago? That was my first thought when reading this article and the comments.
That movie created a generation of paranoid people that are so unstable, they had to re-make it just to feel some normalcy.

Unfortunately they had to round the edges off the utensils in some states. Too many incidents over glue sniffing and paste eating.
