The industry’s support of Scott is short-sighted. He denies the existence of man-made climate change while his state begins to drown in the rising water. Plus the guy is just a monster in general. Disappointing to see the industry on the wrong side of this race.

Crist was a disaster for the insurance industry when he was Governor. He rammed HB1-A down our throats and rolled back rates for Citizens to 2005 levels, making Citizens the insurer of first resort, in many cases. (And, it was way underfunded, alomng with the CAT Fund.) Lots of policy cancellations followed, large, financially strong insurers bailed out, and Citizens ballooned along with a bunch of fly-by-night, Florida domestic start-up companies. Crist was all about politics and he threw common sense and actuarial science out the window so he could be loved by the peoples. We are just extremely lucky that we haven’t had a a hurricane since 2005. No, we’re not on the wrong side of this election. Scott is the better choice. By far. By the way, those on the left who so strongly believe in climate change are the same people who scream the minute any insurer tries to increase rates to reflect increased hurricane activity. They talk out of both sides of their mouths.

Libby: You may wish to be a sheep and buy everything that politicians tell you to make you feel like you can make a difference by raising taxes; I do not. Leave it to people like you to think that anyone who disagrees with you must somehow have their head in the sand. It’s called weather…during the summer it is hot. During the winter it is cold. FL has not had a major hurricane in months. If they did, you’d whine about that. If they don’t, you whine about that. There is no warming, so lets’ change the phrase to climate change.

You guys are pathetic. It’s all a hoax and it’s based on nothing more than computer models. It’s the height of arrogance to say that this Earth, however old one think it is, is perfect the way it is/was during our lifetime and should never change. That we can control the temp by using our grills and using hairspray cans.

So, forgive me if your chicken little arguments don’t cause me to suddenly see things your way.

I never said we controled the temp by using our grills and hairspray cans. I don’t know why the climate is changing, but it is. We are having storms and weather like we’ve not seen in centuries.

And I’m not listening to politicians, I’m listening to scientists. Raising taxes is not on my agenda. Trying to anticipate whether there will continue to be wide changes in climate is. This may just be a fluke. I don’t know. But to deny it’s happening is foolish.

Crist artificially held rates down – and while that played well with some Floridians, the reality is Florida was lucky not to have a hurricane.

Crist pushed for the expansion of the Cat Fund beyond what it could realistically pay… and held rates so low at Citizens, that they became the insurer of choice – essentially government backed and no requirements that people had to go to a private insurer if coverage was offered. Add in the “glidepath” that was originally intended to bring Citizen’s rates in line with private insurers, ultimately kept Citizen’s rates low. Citizens never had sufficient cash or capacity to pay if a major storm hit.

Again, while the populist position seems to play well, especially with the likes of Fasano fanning the flames, the reality is we are all better off when Government stays out of the marketplace… especially when government couldn’t pay the bill and taxpayers were left on the hook for devastating taxes on all insurance policies – car, home, boat, motorcycle… from both Citizens and the Cat Fund!

As for the State of Florida, which, sadly, I live in, voters need to seriously vote none of the above, and then not allow the current candidates to run again if none of the above wins. Politically, Florida has become a joke. In reality, the serious lack of individuals willing to think outside the box, or let’s just say outside the party lines, we’ll continue to be a joke, overrun with shysters and crooks. The people of Florida need to start thinking beyond the ends of their noses, and wake up and realize that to make real changes in this state, they have to be involved and have to hire the right individuals to do the job.

I was saying that yes the voters need to be the ones to think outside the box, to think beyond the ends of their noses. Everyone thinks that voting for the lesser of 2 evils is the way to go. I don’t, I vote my conscience, which means if it’s none of the above, then that’s what needs to be done. Voting for the lesser of two evils does nothing except to continue on the same path. There’s a saying I live by, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get, what you always got.”

        Wayne,

I am not expecting political slickness out of someone new to politics. That is like expecting a rookie QB to be as good as a hall of fame QB his first year. He may end being the best QB ever in his career, but only if he learns how to play the position in the NFL and improves. If you do not play by the rules of any game, do not expect to win.

There is a reason why people who are not polished politicians, but are successful in the private sector. The government never has and never will be run as a business, period. We do not just need people with good ideas, we need people who need to understand compromise.

Most of these successful businesspeople have gotten where they are because they can make a decision without necessarily compromising. In addition, they can fire anyone that does not provide value to the organization. try that in our government. See the Constitution.

Until we have a dictatorship, we need people who are willing to work with people with whom they disagree. Successfful businesspeople do not usually have that trait.

As long as Democrats are around, who NEVER compromise, the only way anything will get done is for liberals to be defeated. How do you compromise with people who wish you were dead and not around? It says something that liberals think we face a bigger threat from the tea party and Republicans and climate change (a hoax) than from ISIS and a nuclear Iran. How do you compromise with that? No, it’s people bashing anyone new to politics for not becoming wishy-washy as soon as they start to govern.

I don’t want to compromise with liberals. If they want compromise, let them believe what I believe. It’s always Republicans who are told to give up what they believe.

            Wayne,

That is exactly why I do not currently like Liberals, Democrats, Conservatives or Republicans as an across-the-board party or ideology. We need to focus on getting more Independents, RINOs and DINOs elected. These are the people who are open-minded and are far more likely to make decisions to benefit the country as a whole.

            A few compromises by Democrats:
            -Welfare reform
            -Repeal of Glass-Steagal
-Increase in the minimum income for the tax increase in 2013 for the highest tax bracket from $200k/$250k to $400/$450k
            -PPACA

If you do not think these are compromises, then you do not know anything about the Democrat’s platform.

They may not compromise as much as you would like, but to say NEVER is disingenuous.

Libby: The current mayor said if they bring a knife to a fight, we bring a gun. Black Panthers showed up at polling places with bats (I assume not so Obama voters would stay away).

            Keep reading your talking points.

If I ever find “common ground” with someone like Libby, I must be wrong. It’s clear she is from the generation that America is the problem, we’re all victims, Republicans are evil and mean/nasty people that call people names, and if I keep repeating the word “progressive” it shows “I’m a good person.” Seriously, does she sway anyone with her MSNBC talking points?

First, Wayne, I don’t watch MSNBC.

Second, if you don’t find common ground with someone like me it’s because you don’t want to; which I think is hilarious since you don’t know the first thing about me.

Third, America is not the problem and not everyone is a victim. But there are some people that have been victimized in this country.

Fourth, Republicans are not evil. But they do tend to be mean and nasty and call people names. Exhibit: wayne smith.

Fifth, I don’t know why you have such a hard-on for me, but it seems a little over-the-top. You might want to dial it down a bit.

And finally, why is it that conservatives point the finger of censorship at the liberals, but Libby is the only one getting censored on IJ? It’s certainly not by the minority of liberals on this site.

“At a fundraiser in Philadelphia where he was flanked by PA governor Ed Rendell, Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter, and Sen. Bob Casey, Barack Obama said, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun. Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.” He was talking about his campaign. Another concoction of something from nothing by the Republicans.

The actions of a few Black Panthers does not represent the entire Democratic party, just as the actions of the members of the Westboro Baptist Church do not define the Republican party. Really. I’m finding it hare to take you seriously with your scurillous accusations.

    Interesting vocabulary lesson for today.

    Definition of Liberal:

broad-minded, nonconventional, nonorthodox, nontraditional, open-minded, progressive, radical, unconventional, unorthodox, abundant, ample, aplenty, bounteous, bountiful, comfortable, cornucopian, generous, plenty, bighearted, bounteous, bountiful, charitable.

    The OPPOSITE of Liberal:

nonprogressive, old-fashioned, orthodox, stodgy, traditional, bigoted, intolerant, narrow-minded; reactionary, deficient, inadequate, insufficient, lacking, wanting; meager, niggardly, stingy; skimpy; minimum; barren, unfruitful, unproductive, mean, petty, small; frugal, spare, thrifty; acquisitive, avaricious, coveting, covetous, desirous, grasping, hoggish, itchy, mercenary, rapacious; begrudging, envious, grudging, resentful.

Hmmmmm. I know which one I’d rather be. So ends today’s lesson.

Gee, that sounds like some open-minded talk for you. See people, THIS is who you want to try to find common ground and compromise with.

Why would we? No, this is someone who needs to be defeated. I prefer definition of liberal as liars and the father (and mother) of lies, thinking themselves wise they have become fools.

You wouldn’t know open-minded if it slapped you in the face.

Seriously. I need to be “defeated”??? Defeated at what? The fact that you fear me is funny.

that’s what i like about being a liberal – no need to spend my own money to be charitable, other people’s money will do.

That’s not what it means to be liberal, fool. I’ve supported myself since I was 17 and paid more than my share of taxes since I have no children to deduct. Educate yourself.

Being a liberal is not about supporting or not supporting oneself. It’s about forcing others to fulfil your dreams.

Your name is Liberal Sponge and based on your initial post, you obviously think being liberal means leeching off of other people’s money. I’m a liberal and I’ve never taken a hand-out from anyone.

I’m not forcing anyone to do anything.
