Love it!! I wish more states would enforce this. It amazes me to see drivers oblivious to traffic behind them; they never check their mirrors, they’re on their cell phone, etc.
We need this in SoCal SoBad. All these downvotes make me laugh. Are the downvoters the same selfish people that sit in the fast lane and block traffic?
Great law, but I also hope that in the case of the approaching driver far exceeding the speed limit that the patrolman is able to give tickets to both. But might be tough to get both of them to pull over to receive their ticket.
I like it, except perhaps the part about if the other party is exceeding the speed limit. Frankly, if I am pushing the limit (plus a couple) in the fast lane, I don’t think I am obligated to move over for somebody who is obviously greatly exceeding the limit. and quite often I don’t, especially if the traffic is going to force me to slow down while the speeder passes me.
I’m confused…I’ve been to Atlanta 4 times this year and haven’t seen a “fast lane” in any of the highways! I’ve seen 8 jammed lanes in either direction, but no fast lane…the back roads are no better.
Steve, you are the perfect example of the reason why this law was put into effect in the first place! “I don’t think I’m obligated to move over…..and quite often I don’t” illustrates the self-righteous, stubborn, and arrogant attitude which pervades so many people on our roads today. The article clearly stated that, by moving out of the way (even for speeding drivers), one is able to prevent the possibility of accidents and road rage. So what if you have to slow down a few miles per hour for maybe 5-10 seconds while you let the faster car pass. That adds basically zero time to your trip while also preventing a possible negative incident. And I can also surmise that you would be a road rage instigator as well based on those comments. Someone comes up behind you and flashes their lights to get past, and you think to yourself “Screw that guy, I’m not moving over” while you flip him off in your rear view mirror. I hope you are able to adjust your views. And if not, I will be extremely pleased when you receive a citation!
So the person speeding, obviously disregarding the law, is not the self-righteous, stubborn, and arrogant party? Maybe if the police would pull over the speeders instead, this would prevent road rage.

What I find interesting, is traffic tickets is the State of Georgia’s 2nd most profit making business, (Issuing tickets) that the state has. Maybe just poor economics in Georgia. Next time you drive thru, notice how many people are pulled over from overpass scouts. Deep south way to generate income. Maybee they can get things right, and finally finish I-75 with fees collected from other state residents who can afford the tariff.
Every state should have this! The average speeder doesn’t want to scare you and risk lives by passing on the right side. Its driver on the lefts responsibility to move over if someone want to speed and the slow poke is risking everyone else by forcing the speeder to make multiple lane changes and pass with the big rigs on the right.
Bravo Georgia!
The far left lane is known as a passing lane and no one should be driving in it for mile after mile. I know with traffic we all do it. I can’t tell you how many times I’m behind someone who isn’t even doing the speed limit and is holding up traffic and that is just as dangerous as speeding.
We have this “Speeder Impeder” law in Arkansas, and oh how I wish it were enforced. If someone wants to go over the speed limit and risk a speeding ticket, far be it from me to hinder that bird dog. But there’s nothing more frustrating than being behind someone holding up a looooong line of traffic just because they don’t want to move over. Even if I’m in the middle lane and someone is on my tail, I move over to let them by. No need for extra stress on the roadways.

Oregon could use this law and the state would make a small fortune.

Or maybe speeding in the first place is what is risking lives?

Left lane is solely for passing/left turns apparently in only 10 states.

To paraphrase George Carlin: Idiots are those people who drive slower than me and maniacs are those who drive faster than me.
