Earth’s Best Organic 2 Apple Peach Barley Wholesome Breakfast baby food, which has been recalled nationwide, should not be fed to babies because of the risk of contamination, state health officials said.
Officials aren’t sure if the product was distributed in Colorado, but say they issued the warning because of it’s availability in stores nationwide and through the Web, said Susan Parachini, wholesale foods manager with the department’s Consumer Protection Division.
The jars may contain clostridium botulinum, which can cause a fatal form of food poisoning known as botulism.
No illnesses have been reported, Parachini said.
Hain Celesital Group initiated the recall that affects some 97,728 4.5 ounce individual jars, and 38,298 variety packs.
The food is part of the company’s “2nd Vegetables, Fruits and Blends” line with the UPC code 23923-20223 or 23923-20295 or PFGJ14NP or PF6J14NP on the lid.
