I am very familiar with racist Hawaii, the most friendliest place on earth (I no longer live in Hawaii, they are all hypocrites). People there are rude, arrogaent and have dislike for caucasians and races other than their own. When I was there, I was ready to puke when some say Hawaii is the friendlist place on earth (or in the USA). My point for posted wasn’t claiming that bullyING is not true, but more so that this is a insurance trade publication and is really not an insurance issue.

Kids just need to “man up”, Can’t go around acting all sissified. If you get beat up and you’re not strong physically then sue — other than that give ’em hell!

Hawaii needs some exchange students from Newark and the Bronx. They can teach the locals how to kick some butt.

I have some boys who are all executives now but came from the streets. It’s not where you came from but where you’re at. I can head a meeting and beat a head in.

This is so stupid. It’s just another way to higher more bureauctat’s. I was hoping that this would by pass Hawaii but guess not. There have always been “bullys” and there will always be the smaller kids. That’s the world. I don’t know when we got the notion that we need to wrap kids in bubble wrap and sit them in the corner so they don’t get hurt or get their little egos damaged. It’s called life people. The sooner you learn to deal with it the better off you’ll be. Oh wait…that’s not right…you should just file a law suit and make some $$$$ when your kid is called a wimp. Hawaii is becoming another sue happy state like California.

Obviously none of you know much, if anything about Hawaii or non-Hawaiian kids in their schools. It is a BIG problem. Many of the Hawaiians do not like outsiders and most kids that are not Hawaiian are enrolled in private and charter schools for this reason. They get beat up and ridiculed to the point that they receive no education and a great deal of the teachers do turn the other way. If nothing else, we all need to care about our kids. Do you tell your kids to “cowboy up” and just take it if they get beat up every day? I think not. Plus the fact, this is definitely an Insurance issue, who do you think pays out if a teacher or school gets sued for a kid getting hurt?

Being as isolated as they are, they have no incentive to assimilate or adapt. Non-islanders who go there won’t ever be accepted. Fortunately, most non-islanders are only there temporarily. The bullying issue is a tough one to resolve. Complaining to public school administrators is a dead end. Having your kid learn martial arts is an option. What better learning experience for a punk bully to have his _ _ _ kicked.
Better to opt for a private school where this kind of nonsense isn’t tolerated.

It may not be the best place to raise children that are not Hawaiian, however just like the folks in the northern states that have an influx of Canadians & those in the Southern States that have hispanics & like Florida where they get their share as well, it’s all a part of growing up & learning what is acceptible & what is not.

By not taking the time to head off a potentially larger problem for these kids as they grow & learn that it is OK to be a bully – will there be major discrimination suits in their future? How about those that are being bullied? Will they take law & become attorneys to fight the bullies in court?

I think every child should be given the opportunity to see how others react & interact, but I agree that it is to the advantage of the school system to nip this in the bud now before it gets totally out of control.

At least if they do something now then the children will learn about it instead of just doing it & remaining ignorant to the possibilities of having a friend of a different nationality or race.

It’s all what is learned in their homes, and if they are not taught any better, then the bigotry remains & continues to grow & be passed on from generation to generation…

This is a great article for IJ – It is insurance related, as I am sure that if there have been significant problems that the school claims have been turned in & ultimately it’s the insurance companies that pay for the defense & damages.

    Happy Fri-Day!

For the people that responded “it’s just life” I wonder if you are a local? Or if your child’s EDUCATION (that’s what school is all about) is at risk? I have lived all over the US and I have NEVER encountered such racism-at such early ages- in fact. I have lived in the north- east and also in the south. This does not happen there. My children are bi-racial and were taught that we are all equal. But when faced with bullies on a daily basis from a particular culture, it’s hard to teach them to treat others with respect. I have a daughter in middle school that has not been bullied personally but is fully aware of the open racism and bullying at school. There is a difference in “life” and being bullied. If you were “bullied” at your adult jobs, it wouldn’t be call bullied – it would be harrassment or racism. Why is this so widely accepted in this culture? I am soon to be homeschooling. Parents- You are failing the school system! Schools can’s raise your children. You have to do it whether you work 3 jobs or not! Your children are STILL your responsibility and always will be. So when they have a criminal record at the age of 12, be willing to admit you are at fault. Don’t get all defensive just because your kids are the ones doing the bullying. Do something about it. Don’t defend it.
