Corvallis, Ore., has been named the “Number One Most Secure Place to Live in the U.S.,” according to a 2007 survey released by Farmers Insurance Group. The survey, divided into three groups, found that Corvallis ranked number one in the small cities category.
The rankings, compiled by database experts at www.bestplaces.net, took into consideration crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, environmental hazards, terrorism threats and job loss numbers in each municipality. There were 379 U.S. municipalities studied, and they were divided into three groups: large metropolitan areas, mid-size cities and small towns.
Farmers State Executive Director Jim Ignozzitto presented a recognition plaque to Corvallis Mayor Charles C. Tomlinson at a Jan. 23 Chamber of Commerce dinner. “Oregon had two other cities ranked in the study,” Ignozzitto noted. “Joining Corvallis in the small city category, and coming in at the 10th spot was Bend, Ore., and Medford, Ore., ranked 20th in the mid-size city category.”
Ignozzitto added that Farmers sponsored the “Most Secure Places to Live” survey to find out how local government works with its citizens to make their communities secure. “Corvallis topped all small metropolitan areas with populations of 150,000 or less,” Ignozzitto said. “We congratulate Corvallis, area government officials, community leaders, businesses and its citizens for an outstanding job in being named number one in the Farmers Insurance Most Secure Cities survey.”
