PMI Mortgage Insurance Co., a subsidiary of The PMI Group, Inc., has appointed Joanne Berkowitz as executive vice president for risk management and operations. In this capacity Berkowitz will be responsible for optimizing the credit risk, portfolio management, and risk-adjusted return objectives for PMI’s U.S. mortgage insurance portfolio as well as for underwriting and servicing operations. Berkowitz had previously served as chief enterprise risk officer for The PMI Group, which is headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif.
“Joanne has been a key contributor to PMI’s success over the years,” said Steve Smith, chairman and CEO of The PMI Group, Inc., “and her experience in U.S. mortgage insurance operations, as well as international mortgage insurance and enterprise risk, makes her the optimum choice for this position.” David Katkov, president and COO of PMI Mortgage Insurance Co., added, “Joanne’s experience and expertise will be invaluable in the very challenging market we are facing. Berkowitz began her career with PMI in 1983. She has held a variety of positions including managing risk management and underwriting for U.S. mortgage insurance operations and for international and strategic investments. Berkowitz is a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area.
