Arizona Officials Nab 15 Impaired Drivers at Tucson Checkpoint

Tucson, Ariz. police used a sobriety checkpoint to pull over 1,084 drivers while arresting 15 on suspicion of drunken driving, city police said in a statement about the operation.

The checkpoint ran from early on April 25 through 3 a.m. on April 26.

Seventeen Tucson police officers staffed the checkpoint, the statement said.

According to the results, there were four extreme DUI arrests of drivers with blood alcohol levels of 0.15 percent or higher.

One driver was arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated DUI and three minors were cited for possession of alcohol, Tucson police said.

The average blood-alcohol level for arrested motorists was 0.13 percent. The state's legal limit is 0.08.
