I have to say that I don’t remember the old Batman movies causing a killing spree. I don’t think the movie theater or the movie companies are liable for this. I am pretty sure that this adult was misguided and obviously has a few mental issues is fully responsible for the killing spree. I understand that the families are trying to grieve and would like someone to blame for their losses, but they are punishing the wring people.
If a person’s mind has the ability to become warped by an unrealistic scenario, there are much larger issues here. I don’t think the parents are to blame, but this person had some serious issues.

The studio might not be responsible, but the NRA has blood on their hands :(

Let us all pray for the victims of this tragic and sensleless shooting, and let’s hope this inspires our officials to do something about all the guns out there.

Yes because all thoes criminals and insane members of society will surely hand over their guns if they became illegal. Also they would never be able to work around the law to get guns either, just look at illegal drugs, America is drug free!

How many criminals do you know that pay attention to the gun laws?
How about this? Maybe if more people in the theatre had guns, they would have shot this guy dead and saving all those lives.

If you think about how this crime is possible in the USA then you have the real reason that this type of event happens. The fault isn’t that of the film producers, the cinema owner, or video game makers it is the fault of the American system allowing the sale of guns to anyone who wants one. As long as you have this idea that “every american has the right to own a gun” then you will get these events happening all the while. Stop the sale of guns to every person with screws loose or not and these events will be reduced by 80%

I dont live in america I live in England where we are not allowed to own guns without showing why we need one – If a criminal wants a gun he will get one somehow to rob a bank or kill a rival but ordinary members of the public dont need guns to protect themselves – The only reason YOU think you need a gun is because you’ve been brought up to beleive that is your right – Total rubbish if you ask me. I have never even seen a gun and I am 48 years old. And I don’t know ANYONE who has one either.

First of all, this is a very sad event no matter what side of the gun debate you are on. Second, the gunman/bomb maker was out to kill as many people as he could. Clearly it was an act of God that caused his AR15 to jam and his bombs to fail. Lastly, what I think we may see as a result of this is a backlash against business that do not allow people to conceal carry. The theater has a very strict “no-guns” policy which forced patrons to leave their guns at home/in the car. Whether you think that a person with their own handgun could have stopped the shooter is irreverent. I say that because in CO alone, there has been a spike over 40% in people buying guns. This result of this event, so far, has been very different from the tragic shootings in the past. In the 90’s the majority of people called for more gun control, now people are buying more guns. “I feel safer having a gun than depending on police” is a statement many more people are making.

To be honest I don’t think there is any particular issue that could have stopped him from doing this. He is mentally ill and is currently heavily medicated, his actions in the court room proved that. Putting blame on the gun makers, movie producers, comic book creators, or Big Bird is not going to change the fact that people like this do exist.
I agree that it was an Act of God or divine power (whichever you believe) that it didn’t get worse. I would be nervous to bring a weapon into a theater, but it could be possible for them to provide better security. Then again who thinks they are not safe in a family environment?

there are several arguments made but in reality after you look at each one, it’s the responsible party being responsible! afterall, let’s break it down:

    1) who in their right mind is allowing a 6 yr old at the movies at that time at night? they should be in bed, not at the movies… if you feel they need to watch that movie, choose a better timeframe or get a babysitter for the little one, just so you can go. where is the responsible parent?

    2) we talk about violence of movies. we could say that about books that are written. they don’t strike up the conversation of oh, let’s get violent. we attribute actions of the individual with the individual. personal accountability. for example, how many times have you seen college sports teams win/lose and the losing team has rash behavior of students that overturn cars or cause destruction? did they sue the event that caused these kids to be disbehaving? NO! movies can make the imagination even more expandable, but that does not mean they created the individual to make illegals acts.

    3) the individual was definately acting on prepared steps, because even his apartment he lived in was booby trapped. he knew what he was doing. it was definately a planned act. so definately not the theater’s nor movie’s responsibility for the actions that were caused.

    4) it is a tragic incident, but in fact it’s a personal responsibility on many faces. you decided to go to the movies. you allowed your children go to these movies. if you think about it, you allowed that same approval for if that child where at home watching the movies. if you allow your son/dau to play video games and they are violent? who responsible? THE PARENT! remember minors are not totally responsible for themselves or are they? they should accept some responsibility. look at how many of them are being tried as an adult! we have come to a society that is eager to gain $$$, instead of looking back at who’s responsible? the gun did not just fire, it took an act of the finger to pull the trigger. that individual is responsible. so goes with those that chose to enter a place of business, you just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time as the old saying goes. don’t profit from that! but go after the individual that caused the frustration and damage whether physically or emotionally. be responsible for being where you are? including allowing your kids to watch violent movies…

So if I understand your logic, those kids deserved to be shot or injured because their parents chose to take them to a movie at a time that doesn’t work for you? I cannot believe that a man walks into a movie theater, regardless of time, and shoots people, and we are yelling about parenting. WHAT ABOUT THE SHOOTERS PARENTS???? Should we fry them up in the electric chair as well? The issue here isn’t parenting, the issue is someone killing innocent people.

here’s the logic… u keep these kids up this late at night and then the next day you get mad at the kids because they did not get enough sleep and cause trouble because of that and you blame them… in reality, blame yourself. kids have a bedtime and should get that bedtime and get enough sleep to function the next day… obviously we don’t plan on getting shot at during the movie, but it’s obvious, that these kids should have been in bed… then we would not have any discussions about kids being out late at night and something rare happens… you remember the old saying sometimes in the wrong spot at the wrong time… if something can go wrong, is possibly will.. either way, kids of the younger age, should have been home asleep.. then this discussion is MUTE!

But seriously, what does that have to do with a deranged lunatic walking into a theater and shooting people? You are on the wrong feed because THIS discussion is about movies playing a role in this man doing so. This isn’t about whether or not you agree with someone else’s parenting.
          And…
Let me guess…if a woman is wearing a short skirt, and gets raped, she was asking for it. I hope you don’t have any daughters.

There are obviously a load of people in the USA who think that owning a gun is their right and dont even consider that this fact cant have any baring on some one lossing their marbles and blowing peoples brains out ! Make no mistake – the media is responsible. We are circling around the Mulberry bush again. Back in the early 1990’s there was a great debate over the content in media. The solution? Create a labelling system. It is a failed system. Young adults will pursue against such a system – and typically it is young adults who sell these games – which are loaded with undue violence.
And it is not just in video games. Our whole entertainment culture is loaded with questionable content.

Young minds do not understand garbage in – garbage out.

Everyone pays. The insurance companies have to cover liabilities, and costs get passed on to the consumer. The Liberals will have you believe everything is fine, and the Conservatives will have you believe we are in social decline. Make no mistake – we ARE.
And until the Liberals understand it is a financial drain – nothing will get done.

What happened in Aurora is heart-breaking.

Creating new gun laws, government meddling, and other knee-jerk reactions are not the answer.

The solution? Every industry has a professional organization that creates standards for itself. Engineers have to design and build to specific codes. The same should apply to the entertainment industry. Media – especially the gaming industry – should adhere to specific standards. And they must be held accountable.

Hmm, it just dawned on me, the parents/loved ones are wanting to sue the theater/movie makers because they are creating/showing a violent movie.. hmm.. yet it’s your child or your loved one viewing the movie. Why is it OK to watch them then hold “them” accountable for some idiots actions? If they ban movies like Batman what then will your kid go watch? Not everything can be G/PG rated. Just sayin!
