There the system goes, trying to keep whitey down again. How dare he get passed up for a woman or a minority. The nerve. This is the South!
New Mexico is considered as part of the “South”? Interestin’
Discrimination is discrimination regardless of age/race/gender. If lesser qualified people were promoted, then it may be costing the community/police department the skills of someone that may be better in that position.
Passed over for a promotion by lesser qualified individuals because he didn’t have the right skin color or gender.
Doesn’t sound like reverse discrimination to me.
Sounds like plain ol regular discrimination.
And oddly enough…you and I are in agreement again.
What is reverse discrimination?
[Stefan]It’s that thing of where, in an effort to avoid discriminating against one group, you end up discriminating against another group. Blah blah blah, something about midgets. [/Stefan]
This sort of thing happends all the time. Its just that no aw many realize its happening and fight back.
Good for him. Sounds to me that in order to keep the department for “ethnically diversified,” the only way to do that is to appoint those who cannot get there on their own, while screwing those who can.
The same thing happened in Dayton, Ohio last year. Not enough minorities passed the exams so they lowered the test scores.
Makes you feel good, doesn’t it? People who can’t even get a 66% to pass are given a job because of their skin color? So much for not discriminating on the basis of race.
It has been happening for decades and will continue until Affirmative action is repealed and people are left to make desicions regarding their business as it should be. If a business promotes someone just because they are a minority, especially when that person is less qualified, the market will repair that poor decision. If a white (supposedly majority) person is promoted when there is a more qualified candidate, just because the person is white, the business will suffer. In this day and age, it is time to do away with Affirmative Action. Minority business discriminate all the time and nothing is said. If you do not promote the best and brightest, your business will suffer, plain and simple. Business decisions should be based on merit and qualifications, work ethic, etc., not skin color.
Mighty white of you do say, David. Just how often do you think an African American would be “more qualified” in the sticks of Mississippi? Affirmative action needs to stay. Do you even know the candidate who received this position? How do you know he’s not qualified? Because the guy who was passed up said so. Well, no kiddin’, can’t believe he’s going to intimate that notion.
“Mighty white of you do say, David”…what a complete and total racist thing for you to say, Captain Planet. It is the stupidity of people like you that keep the race war going. Sounds like you harbor a lot of anger/hatred towards whites.
Mighty omniscient of you to be able to discern ethnicity over the internet.
And “mighty white of you” is an expression that is not inherently ethnically derived.
Of course, Captain Planet also used the phrase incorrectly.
…”And “mighty white of you” is an expression that is not inherently ethnically derived.” Then, where the heck do you think it’s derived from, Jon, if not racially motivated?
@Ralph:
The meaning of the phrase is used to describe an action of “charity” that actually has little to know charitable value.
People argue over whether it was derived due to colonialism, or if it was coined because the color white is symbolized as pure, virtuous, etc.
@Jon–duly noted. However, when the phrase “Mighty white of you” is used in the context in which Captain Planet used it in his post, it is perceived as being a racist comment, not pure and virtuous!
Yes, it was supposed to say “to say”, not “do say” and yes, it is racially charged. Of course it is, we are talking about races here. I have no anger towards any group. C’mon, I’m not a Republican. Okay, that’s a joke I stole from David Cross. All I am saying is, the law was put in place for a reason. And, this country is not void of racist views against minority groups. There are those out there in positions of power that hold the racist views and won’t give some opportunities because of their skin color, gender, or sexual disposition. I am sure this individual was also qualified for the position.
Whatever happened to judging a person by the content of their character, and not by the color of their skin? When one group is unfairly favored over another group it is called discrimination. Period. Standards should be the same no matter what color. The more qualified person should get the job. Period.
