Wyo. OSHA Seeks Additional Fines Against Sinclair

October 10, 2012

Wyoming’s state workplace safety agency is seeking another $155,000 in fines against Sinclair Oil, this time for a refinery fire that injured four workers in early May.

The May 8 fire at the Sinclair Refinery in south-central Wyoming was the first of three this year that have injured a total of seven workers.

The Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration also is seeking $60,000 in fines for a May 25 fire that injured two workers.

Department of Workforce Services Director Joan Evans says a state OSHA investigation found hazards that likely factored into the fire. Wyoming OSHA has issued 11 citations against Salt Lake City-based Sinclair, including three for alleged repeat serious violations.

Sinclair vice president Clint Ensign says the company will correct deficiencies identified by the investigation.
