California County Sued Over Prison Suicide Attempt

Parents of a convicted robber who was left brain-damaged after an alleged prison suicide attempt are suing Riverside County and the state.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported the suit claims Christopher Godair is a victim of negligence and civil rights violations.

The suit claims the Hemet man attempted suicide with heroin at a county detention center in April of 2011. The suit claims that seven months later, he overdosed on illicit drugs in another suicide attempt at Centinela state prison.

He was left unable to care for himself and was released last year.

The lawsuit claims officials knew or should have known that Godair had psychiatric disorders that needed medication and had tried suicide previously.

State prison and county sheriff’s officials told the Press-Enterprise they don’t comment on pending litigation.
