How does this settlement give her more rights? They acknowledged she wasn’t in for a violent crime nor was she a flight risk. Plus she was IN LABOR! She’s hardly going to make a run for it while she’s delivering a baby. I agree shackeling her at that time was inhumane. Besides, it’s not like she’s making off with big bucks.

You will find most areas that I start to not look republican at all are areas of capital punishment, pot laws, or general government control.

          I really shouldn’t call myself a republican actually…I’m more a libertarian.

I’ve been stressed out lately so I’ve been focusing on what we don’t agree on, but I would like to start being more positive. It has certainly been a rough last few years. I lost my dad at the same time as gaining my first kiddo, had to take care of my sister’s kid because she’s not fit to do so, and I have my mother living with me on certain days of the week to be able to pull it off because I certainly can’t handle that with my second child now here.

I have literally gone far grayer in just 3 years.

I would like that. We can still disagree, but we don’t have to insult each other all the time. You will find I am not the far left-wing radical people think I am. It’s only because they think that that they read everything I say with that in mind. I know it sounds corny, but I am misunderstood alot on here.

Corniness doesn’t matter to me, I am myself in person.

You might even find though that I’m far left in regards to most prison/crime areas as a side comment.

I believe most people in bad spots are in them from a lack of good in their life. Rehabilitation as opposed to punishment. For example have a prison convict of stealing work with a housing needs firm like housing hope (day care for kids). They might start to learn that’s who they are stealing from, and actually have some money themselves. Help with their college while there, and get them to be a day care teacher and be well off, and then you have someone who was stuck in a bad spot out of it.

In most areas I see almost any form of punishment outside of human authority, and pointless. There are some this won’t benefit, but I believe everyone can become better if they are given help.

This is why I get pissed on here when someone talks about heartless republicans, or that they side with big business over people. There are plenty who look at as what’s best for the economy is best for the people (lucrative tax rates).

She was in prison for trying to steal $300 in casino chips. That doesn’t sound like the kind of woman who would need to be shackled immediately before and after giving birth in the interests of public safety. It was cruel and unnecessary.

The real question is, will they make her pay for the transportation to and from the hospital as well as the hospital bill out of her “winnings?” Or do the taxpayers get that “benefit” or “right?”

Hey Baxtor, BS has a point. It appears she did not need to be restrained to that extent. I do agree, however, with you. She committed a crime and the taxpayers had to foot the bill for her delivery of the child. I hope the child does not grow up in with the idea that everything is free.

I always find it funny, liberals, who regard life so highly, and speak of the injustices of profiteering, and capitalism, and that human beings shouldn’t have a cost number above their head when it comes to basic rights like health care and being allowed access to survive,

Put a price tag on human children. If they are a burden on society we should abort them right? Right Shirley? You love humanity that much? I think I should put a dollar value on your head, and I’ll start the bidding at $9.99.

Besides, that kid will eventually work and pay plenty in the “unfair” taxes against the middle class right Shirley? Right? As you liberals tend to argue.

The kid will likely have a rough life, but it is extremely unlikely that they will be a deficit negative, if anything, they will be a pissed off money pit for the government to fill it’s coffers.

Who said anything about abortion? The topic was birth control. It’s like loss prevention or loss avoidance. Risk management 101.

Bob – $9.99 on someones head? I understand your point but that comment makes you sound like the price on your head could be found at the dollar store….sounds kind of ignorant huh? Also, is your assumption that the “kid will likely have a rough life” based purly on assumption and/or speculation of the mothers one bad act? Maybe this child has a father/grandparents/other family members that are truly special, moral and caring people and will make sure the child is provided for and given opportunities to succeed. All the negitive speculation from you makes me feel like I am watching Fox news…..again…..just sayin’.

She was in prison starting January 2011, but gave birth in October 2011. Doesn’t that mean she got pregnant while in prison?
