This action by the commissioner is dangerous and oversteps his authority. His purpose is to regulate insurance not the energy industry. Even if you agree with his opinion on coal, what is to stop him and any of his successors from mandating issues outside the insurance industry?

what if an insurance company receives utility service from a company that uses coal? he should probably address that, too. or if an employee still has a coal furnace in his 100 yr old home. or if his brother in law works at a coal mine in Wyoming.

I just looked. there are seven coal fired power plants in California (that feed into the power grid – which means the D of Ins. gets some of it’s power from coal)

The “voluntarily divest” nudge to provide “detailed and specific financial disclosures” data to make “information public” is not the jurisdiction of the California Department of Insurance.

Enough is enough! The carbon economy does not need to be demonized.

How does increased regulation lower the insurance costs for the California driver?

Free market capitalism (insurance company investments) may actually subsidize and lower insurance premiums for the California drivers.

The California Department of Insurance commissioner needs to be a non-partisan office ASAP.
