California Man Bit by Dog While Rescuing Cat Awarded $1M

    May wasn’t running or hiding from the officers, yet the man in his 60s wouldn’t lie on the ground, so the officers instructed the dog, which was standing next to May, to attack him. That’s excessive use of force.

    May wasn’t arrested or charged with a crime, but the deputies did place a sticker in the shape of a German Shepherd on him that proclaimed, “I met Riggs” (the name of the police dog) and took his photo. Apparently they considered it to be great fun. That’s demeaning.

    May should have obeyed the deputies’ commands to lie on the ground given that he was trespassing (I sure would have), but nothing he did justified what happened to him as a result of not doing so.

      You must have significantly more detail on this case than the article provided to come to the conclusions you did. From what I see in the article this appears to be a pretty straight forward case of criminal trespass with the officers certainly not having the details at the time the dog was deployed. When will stupid people just listen to reasonable commands from law enforcement and quit putting themselves at risk.
