Very heartfelt and informative, Patrick. We need to distinguish between “health INSURANCE” (which still exists) and “healthcare FINANCING” (the common coverage most people have).
To use P&C terminology, healthcare financing entails both “loss control” and “loss recovery.” Most plan pay for the routine doctor visits so you will go to the doctor and, hopefully, head off the big illness.
As an analogy, imagine that your auto mechanic had an ethical and social obligation to do whatever he or she could to keep your car running, even if you had neglected customary maintenance. Then there would be a need for “auto maintenance financing” which would probably include coverage for oil changes, as well as damage from accidents.
Not sure where the ‘rant’ was pointed? Are we complaining about the loose application of the word ‘insurance’ or that health insurance is not property insurance? (LoL)
It may be possible to find a better definition of ‘non-health’ insurance than was offered but as rants go, this will suffice… that is, … unless, … maybe this wasn’t really a rant and was meant to be instructional?
Very helpful content, heartfully saying thank you for sharing.
Yeah, Health ”Insurance” can get away with a lot of things that P&C would be fined and jailed for doing.
