Re: How are you protecting your clients private information?

Was your question relating to health insurance? Maybe the reason is that many on this forum are P&C people. HIPPA and PHI was always from the beginning about private health information. That didn't stop everyone from deeming everything under the sun as PHI. For a while I was seeing encrypted doc...

Re: The AI and COI issue can be a PITA

Ha ha!! An hour ago I just received another one of my favorite requests from a GC to place on a COI for my client. "There are a few items that I need from you prior to us entering contract. The first is a copy of your W9. The second is a copy of you COI with the following information included: ...

The AI and COI issue can be a PITA

As IRMI says "Insurance certificates are one of the more dangerous documents that float between insureds, insurers, and a myriad of third parties. There are many landmines to watch out for." I for one would like to see legislation that ends this never ending risk transfer game playing. Whi...

CG 20 10 11 85 and CG 20 37

I still see contracts expressing their need for the CG 20 10 11 85 form and I ask...where have they been for the past 20 years? Then some will ask for CG 20 37 but it can prove difficult to obtain. Many insurers are not ready to give up "put to its intended use" and I don't blame them. Als...

Re: Liberty Mutual rental - $94 a year ??

Well I am into my mid-sixties so I would say I fit into the cynical mold. Plus being in the insurance business since 1984 I can definitely say I am cynical. I only posted to vent a bit and wonder just what the heck the insurance agent did to get a $94 renters premium. There is a guy I know that has ...

Liberty Mutual rental - $94 a year ??

I have a client that had their renters ins. with me through Safeco. Her father takes care of her finances and just went with Liberty Mutual for $94 a year. Safeco is a Liberty Mutual company but can't come close to $94 nor would I want to write a $94 policy. This policy is always running late and ab...

Re: AI status and 30 day notice of cancel endorsment

I'm involved again with a contractor that is in the top 5 in the USA that wants notice of cancellation given and the one part of the paragraph that got me was this - " other entities as required by required by Owner or Contractor" . So we had the three way conversation with me, my client a...

Adding Architect as AI is a dangerous course -- yes - no

My client has gotten involved with an OCIP and the OCIP wants my client to name their architect as additional insured. Hm....yes where is that famous OCIP saying that we deserve a credit because your CGL will not need to respond? Anyhow my client has a blanket AI endorsement and I am not keen on put...

Client wnders why his HO premium went up

One of my long time clients was a bit miffed because his HO premium went up @ $100 this year. So I got his loss runs and here is what I found -- Since 2002 Claims paid $12,203.73 Premiums paid $13,564 Difference $1,360.27 Three year loss report: Claims paid $6,792.84 Premiums paid $4,705 Difference ...

Re: Certs - when will agents all get on the same page

Yep since 1984 I have given that speech a thousand times and a thousand times I get a COI request after the contract has been signed. The deal is "supposed" to be that I read the contract first. I always start with educating my sub contractors before even issuing them a certificate of insu...

Certs requesting job names and numbers

Many people find that it is a never ending want from General Contractors for certificates. We all know or should know is illustrated in a notice. Below is part of the Notice and to the PITA General Contractors I will send the notice. " This notice clarifies the acceptable use of certificates of...

Re: OCIP and credits given

The problem is that you would need to change the insurance policy description on how and when an AI can apply their rights. Talk to ISO about that one. AI on the auto? "WHO Is" on the BAP already addresses that one. A named insured contractor under a BAP can look at the “Who Is an Insured”...

Re: Certs - when will agents all get on the same page

True! They are the people that make our lives difficult. I would hate to tell you how many times I have to explain to an insurance agent how to properly fill out a COI to evidence the correct insurance coverages. 'course...I work in risk management and have 25 years of insurance background a...

Re: OCIP and credits given

They didn't originally tell my client that there was an OCIP involved. After the contract was awarded the OCIP appeared. The entire project is $65 million and my clients contract is $1.4 million. My client never did a job with the GC before and the GC is a nationwide company. The GC is on the Forbes...

Re: Certs - when will agents all get on the same page

I agree 100% that it is a way to float the money before writing the check. The original COI was good enough to let them on the job, they finish the job and then....oh we need a new updated COI. Guess what? We have problems with the COI and won't release the check. Poppycock!!!! I'm currently writing...
