Re: College senior interested in insurance career

I agree with mccluney. Starting at an insurance company serving the independent agency market will serve you well. They are hungry for young talented people and will give you the professional training you will need. My father owned a small independent insurance agency and when I graduated from colle...

Re: The "1 year rule"

I’m in the later end of my career, having worked for an insurance company, then another’s agency, and now my own agency. When I was giving notice to the insurance company regional executive that I was leaving to go to the agency side, I felt guilty about leaving. He told me not to feel that way and ...

Re: Agency Management System

Take a look at Intuit Payment Network. https://paymentnetwork.intuit.com/ I invoice in AMS360 and then send a payment request with the invoice attached via IPN. They also have the ability to put a "Pay" button on your web site, email, etc. Cost is reasonable. I use it to invoice clients wh...

Re: The Age Old Question-How much to split

As an owner of an agency that has been through this with young PL agents, I would agree that 70% is too high a percentage. You have invested in this person heavily already and so the agency deserves to make some return. I would suggest that you stair step a reduction in percentage to the agent, like...

Re: Deposit into the trust account or operating account?

Hi, In most states, it is a voilation of law to co-mingle client funds and agency operating funds. That is why you have a Trust account. Also, you have a fiduciary duty associated with that account to make sure the funds go where they are supposed to (similar to an escrow company). When you accept a...
