Re: Travelers reducing commissions
It's not an 8% cut, it's actually a 20% cut: 15% x .80 = 12%. Despite the cut, many agents will think it's great for awhile. Travelers will be highly competitive and get us to write our new business and force us to move many of our existing customers there with their new, lower rates. Then they'll ...

Re: New Insurance Agency
It is very difficult to get an appointment as a new agency...we were only able to do so because I was one of the top performing captive agents in the region for the company I worked for, and then it had taken 4 months for the territory rep to receive an exception to appoint us. Going with a company ...

Re: It can happen to us too
We also had a claim, not theft related but our water heater burst in our office causing much damage. We tell our clients to take time to document serial numbers etc, keep proof of our items, what we decided to do is video tape everything. Is anyone recommending that to their clients? If so where do...

Re: Erie Insurance, feedback please.
Hey guys, Thanks for the tips, advice, and feedback. I did speak with an Erie agent, he loves the company. But he only receives 10% commission for car insurance. It's hard to take a 50% pay cut and they expect you to be the #1 carrier. We decided to stop looking further as they only write in 2 out o...

Erie Insurance, feedback please.
We had a territory rep for Erie insurance make a surprise visit to our agency because of our page one ranking in Google. We turned down Erie seven years ago because they wanted us to get rid of some of our carriers, plus they were only paying 10% Commission on auto insurance at the time...now they p...

Re: Foremost Commission Cuts
I'm in Florida and Foremost cut it to 9% new, 8% renewal. That's the lowest of any auto carrier I have ever represented in 22 years as an IA. Even Progressive is 12% and 10% for us. It's simply not profitable. Luckily, our book is not large with them but Foremost will certainly not get another piec...

Re: Terminated Farmers agent wins lawsuit vs. FIG
Nice to see a win for the good guys. http://www.taosnews.com/news/article_866016e0-be48-11e2-ac51-001a4bcf887a.html That might give some captive's food for thought. Early in my insurance career the captive I worked for would terminate agents also with no accountability but leaving the former agents...

Re: Real Housewives of Miami "star" suing insurance agent
Wouldn't BI just kick in since he was the passenger; therefore considered a 3rd party? Perhaps the driver's limits were too low. I believe FL requires $10k personal injury protection so that's nothing, especially if more than 1 person was injured. Most policies contain a family member exclusion for...

Re: Online Competition
I'm sorry, Jack, I didn't see your other replies. Yes, the coverage for Water Back Up can differ a lot from company to company. There are sometimes important differences among the policies of different insurance companies. But you need to be careful, when you are talking about how coverage works fo...

Re: Direct Mail VS Paid Leads
In our agency we use a multi faceted approach that works rather well: Internet leads generated by means of my websites. (We do not purchase leads, all developed organically from my sites) Recycled leads. (Telemarketing) Referral lead generation. Online marketing has the highest ROI. (7-1, every doll...

I make it a habit to collect insuring agreements from competitors, the 'Other insurance' clause is most certainly in the policies I mentioned in Ohio. When insurance agents decide to become educators and understand the policies that they are selling The type of client that they attract to their age...
